how can i add a watermark to a document?

Hi all
the graphic is a file(as .jpg .bmp .gif) in the disk.
and i want put the griphic into a doc file and make it to be a watermark at
the background of the doc .
how can i do?
it will be as well to paste a piece of code or give me the function intro.

Briefly, if you have a template which you want it on then the best way is
to place a frame that covers the whole of the page, which is anchored to
the header and which contains the bitmap.

Then what you can do is write code to look for this frame and then
remove/apply the image at will.
