List of recently-opened files in Word 2003

Word shows a list of the nine most recently-opened files. The top one on
the list, though, has the name of a file used long ago, although when
clicked on, the most recently used file does come up. The error is just
in the name.
Does someone know a fix for this? (I tried setting the options so that
no list comes up, and then resetting the options for the list--no better.)

Hi Edgar,

The files MRU list is stored in the Word\Data\Settings registry key.
Maybe that key got corrupted:
