Hello!
To avoid trouble with OS specific problems we've kept using a macro driven
installation for our Word add-in (several *.dots, *.docs, fonts) for many
years. The benefit of this is, that we only have one installation procedure
for
Word 6.0 (!) / Win 3.1 (!) to Word 2003 / Win XP and Word 6.1 / MacOS 7.x to
Word 2004 / MacOS 10.4.xx. The downside is, that the procedure is not fully
automated and the security settings have to be changed during installation
with the more recent Word versions.
Now, times are a-changin', and we don't want our customers to fumble with
security settings etc. during installation any more. Though we are prepared
to
leave WinWord 6.0/7.0 and MacWord 6.1 behind for good, there's still an
awful lot of Word and OS versions to deal with.
The problem is: though I may be able to create an installer for Windows (95
to XP and beyond) on my own, I fear that I don't know enough about the
MacOS's (9.0 and beyond).
There are three localizations of the add-in, and more to come, so, easy
handling of multiple languages is an issue, too.
As always, I would prefer a single solution for all OS's, using
InstallAnywhere, perhaps, or something like that.
Can someone give advice? Then, please, answer to the newsgroup.
If anyone may want to offer professional service, write to me directly,
please.
