An add-in is any .dot file in Word's start-up folder. These are loaded
automatically when Word starts. The file itself is not opened as such, but
the macro code it contains is available. As files, they are just ordinary
templates.

Check Tools > Templates and Add-ins to see what add-ins (if any) you
currently have loaded. You can also see them by switch to VBA -- the add-ins
are listed in the project explorer window.

Hello,

an addin could be a COM addin too which is loaded by a registry key and is
written in any language that supports COM and interfaces!

Ciao,
Ralf
