Hi,

can anybody explain if an add-in can turn "inactive" in Word 2003 (and
therafter found under help menu/about/disabled items-button) without any
user notification? I've found information that using switches /safe or /a
doesn't load add-ins, but tht's not the case here.

There is an actual case with a com-add-in (without a com shim and not a
vsto-add-in) that now and then gets inactivated without any user
notification.

Any help is highly appreciated,
Peter

This may happen in relation to a Word crash if Word finds that a add-in was
causing the crash (or was involved in it). I have experienced this myself and
have also seen it on other user’s computers. The add-in will remain disabled
until you manually go to Help > About > Disabled items and enable the add-in
again.

However, I think that Word will normally show a message the first time you
start the program after the crash, telling that xxx caused a serious error
and asking whether you want to disable xxx.
