Hi,

I want to use the adressbook in Ms Word. All the names and adresses are
currently stored in a excel-file. Is there a way to import this file into Ms
word ??

Thanks, Rob

Evening Rob,

Can we go back a step or two and ask why you want to import an address
book into Word? Why not store it in Outlook or in a database?

Both are better at storing the addresses than a plain Word document.

Morning Malc,

The raison why is i used before wordperfect and I when i wrote a letter i
could put a name and adress into mine letter with a combination of keys.
The adressdata were stored in a wp-file. This is still the fastest way to
put an adress, but i don't use wp anymore and i wonder if i can get my names
into the adressbook of word because the less programs are running, how
quicker i can run mine other programs.

regards, Rob

i apolgize for mine (bad ?) english writen .

Got you! So you don't want to import a whole address book but in the
course of writing a letter you want to bring in one, or perhaps more,
addresses.

You didn't mention what sort of address store you have at the moment. Do
you have Outlook, for example? Or is this for a company and do they have
a Contact Management System which is used to store contact information?

Please tell us where the address information is likely to be.

Personally, I'm glad that the Word Perfect system has vanished - it means
that the address data can be held in a more centralised and accessible
location.

Cheers

Hi Malcolm,

Nowdays the data are store in a wp-file.I can export them to an excelfile or
textfile.
Ofcourse I've Outlook or Outlook Express, but The data are not stored in
outlook because i need not to send letters by mail . The adressbook in OE is
different of the adressbook i need to use in Word.

The data contains only Name, Street, Postcode and City.

When i write a letter, the customer is in front of me, and i give him the
letter immediatly after his visit.

I want to write his letter. This letter is based on a standaardletter with
contains already the heading of it.
It should be suitable if i can click in a menuebar on the icon of the
adressbook, and a popup of the adressbook comes on top of the letter so i
can click the name which comes afterwards in my letter on the place it
should be.

thanks, Rob

I have read your previous mail. Let me explain again. You have a request
to store your contact addresses somewhere and from this somewhere you will
want to select one and to bring it into Word.

Now, this is easy. You can either use Outlook to hold the addresses which
works very well and in that case you will need to use the CDO and/or the
MAPI interface to get the addresses from Outlook.

Or, you have to decide to hold the addresses in a database somewhere and
someone has to design a database schema in which they are to be held.

Or, you have a Contact Management System (CMS) which holds these
addresses.

Now, I cannot make up your mind for you on how you run your company, or
how your bosses, run their company. This is why I asked.

So, tell me how would you want to do it.

If you want to use Outlook, which is what I would prefer then it would be
easy to use CDO. If you used a database then ADO would be easy but
someone has to design the database first, or if you used a CMS such as
InterAction then I would need to know first.

In that case you are going to need to read up about CDO. May I suggest
that you start there (as it's a large subject) and then come back here if
you have problems.

I can recommend an O'Reilly book "CDO & MAPI Programming with Visual
Basic" as it will cover all that you need.

When you need help on a specific part of the problem then shout back as
it's rather large a field to discuss here. Or get someone in to make you
a simple Letter template in Word.

If I had time then I'd do one for you. But at the moment I think that I
have picked up a couple of days' work at the moment that I have to get
involved in first.
